Snoring is the vibration of respiratory structures and the resulting sound, due to obstructed air movement during breathing while sleeping. The sound may be soft or loud and unpleasant. Snoring is known to cause sleep deprivation to both the snorer and those who hear him/her, as well as knock-on effects: daytime drowsiness, irritability, lack of focus, decreased libido. It has also been suggested that it can cause significant psychological and social damage to sufferers.
Sleep apnoea is a condition that interrupts your breathing when you are asleep. This is usually caused by an obstruction blocking the back of the throat so that the air cannot reach your lungs. The cessation of breathing automatically forces you to wake up in order to start breathing again. This can happen many times during the night, making it hard for your body to get enough oxygen, and preventing you from obtaining enough good quality sleep.

Sleep Apnea and Shame

Are those who are ashamed they sleep? I know the answer for me is a resounding "no." But for others, it is not so simple. To my way of thinking, sleep apnea is a common disease, there is no stigma is attached. Clearly, sleep disturbances with a hose to a breathing machine each night is uncomfortable, but I do not feel as if they have something I need to hide. But for my friend Peter (name changed for anonymity), it is a black mark that he is forced to by the other. When he wakes up in the morning, he takes care of the stash machine, mask and other equipment from the perspective of the person on his homepage. When he travels, he will stay in a room alone, even though other coupling and sleep in the same hotel. And if a lady to spend the night, he will certainly not sleep with the machine at night. In fact, it would be another important weeks, perhaps months, until it is very close feeling with her.

Now, I'm married and he is single. I live in the 'burbs and he lives in the city. Perhaps these differences in lifestyle for some of the gap between the thoughts, as we on our sleep. Until I meet someone with sleep apnea who are married and also of the view that the disease is a stigma, which is the only hypothesis I have.
