Snoring is the vibration of respiratory structures and the resulting sound, due to obstructed air movement during breathing while sleeping. The sound may be soft or loud and unpleasant. Snoring is known to cause sleep deprivation to both the snorer and those who hear him/her, as well as knock-on effects: daytime drowsiness, irritability, lack of focus, decreased libido. It has also been suggested that it can cause significant psychological and social damage to sufferers.
Sleep apnoea is a condition that interrupts your breathing when you are asleep. This is usually caused by an obstruction blocking the back of the throat so that the air cannot reach your lungs. The cessation of breathing automatically forces you to wake up in order to start breathing again. This can happen many times during the night, making it hard for your body to get enough oxygen, and preventing you from obtaining enough good quality sleep.

Tips on Finding the Right Snore Stop Mouth Piece

You may be at a point where your snoring has become a major issue for you and your partner and you are considering various stop snoring remedies, treatments, or devices. You may be considering a snore stop mouth piece, but you don't want to spend a lot of money on something that may not work, and you have a lot of questions. Do mouth pieces work? How do they work? How effective are they? Are they uncomfortable to wear? How much do they cost?

Mouth pieces, or mandibular advancement splints, their official name, work by moving the jaw slightly forward so that the airway isn't blocked during sleep. Some devices also hold the tongue forward slightly, since it often slides to the back of the mouth during sleep, obstructing the airway and causing snoring.

A stop snoring mouth piece is effective for controlling snoring - depending on what is causing you to snore. Studies have shown that 85 percent of the users of these devices have reduced the sound of their snoring. Additionally, 76 percent of users reported that they snored fewer nights per week.

In general, mouth pieces aren't uncomfortable to wear. It may take a night or two to adjust to something in your mouth, but the most common side effects are a slightly dry mouth and excessive salivation.

They can be pricey, since most of these devices are only available via prescription through your dentist. Costs, including exams, fittings, and the device itself, can run to several hundred dollars.

Here are a couple of tips to help you determine if a mouth piece is right for you and how to find the right one.

Determine what is causing you to snore

Not all snoring is the same, and it's unlikely you can determine the cause of your snoring since you're asleep! You can go to a sleep center or a medical professional, but this will cost some money. You can ask you partner to help you figure out why you snore, since he or she will probably be awake anyway, because of your snoring. What is your general body position? Is your mouth open? How is your head positioned on your pillow? If you are snoring through your mouth, then you are likely a candidate for a mouth piece.

Try a less expensive alternative to the prescription devices

Even if you believe a stop snoring mouth piece will work for you, hundreds of dollars is quite a commitment. You can get non-prescription "boil and bite" soft plastic devices that you soak in hot water to soften and then bite into to mold to your jaw. Athletic mouthpieces are also inexpensive, but a little more substantial than the soft plastic "boil and bites".

If you are comfortable with one of these solutions and you find that you wake rested - and your partner confirms you are snoring less, then you might consider spending the money and go to a dentist to get a custom fitted snore stop mouth piece.

Will a Stop Snoring Mouth Guard Work for You?

Snoring really sucks, both for you and your partner. Your partner is kept awake by your snoring. You often wake up tired instead of refreshed and ready for the day. You've finally decided to take some steps to stop your snoring, but with all the devices, treatments, and remedies on the market you aren't really sure how to proceed. You've seen ads for mouthpieces, but you don't know how a stop snoring mouth guard works or if it will work for you.

Before you drop the coin for a mouth guard, or "mandibular advancement splint" as it is properly called, you need to determine what is causing you to snore. You may be nose snoring so a mouth guard won't do you any good. You can go to a sleep center, or a medical professional, but these will cost you some money. Enlisting your partner's aid in noting your body position, mouth position, and head position when you snore might be all the help you need to find out why you are snoring.

How does a mouth piece work?

There are a lot of mouth guards to choose from, but they all do essentially the same thing. They move the jaw forward slightly to keep your airway open while you sleep. Some also hold the tongue forward slightly to keep it from blocking your airway.

How effective is it?

As with anything in life, your experience will be unique. With that said, studies have shown that 85 percent of the participants experienced a reduction in snoring noise. In the same study 76 percent of the participants said they snored fewer nights. Some people experience a dry mouth and some experience excessive salivation, but side effects and discomfort are minimal.

What does it cost?

This is not an easy question to answer since costs do vary, but your friendly FDA has made most mandibular advancement splints available by prescription only, through your dentist. These can run into the multi-hundreds for the examination, fitting, and the appliance itself.

If you want to try a mouth guard but don't want to drop hundreds of dollars without some assurance it will work for you, you can find inexpensive "boil and bite" devices available without prescription. These are made of soft plastic that you soften in hot water and then bite into, molding it to your jaw. Athletic mouthpieces might also be a solution for you.

If one of these solutions works for you, then you might want to consider a custom-fitted, prescription stop snoring mouth guard to further reduce your snoring. You do have options. You can cure your snoring, and you and your partner can both enjoy restful nights' sleep.

What Causes Snoring and Simple and Easy Steps to Stop It

Finding out what causes snoring can lead one to knowing what is the best remedy or treatment for it. Snoring can have serious and adverse affects not only on one's health but as well as one's relationship with his or her partner. It can great affect the quality and quantity of your sleep so it should not be taken as a joke or laughing matter.

2 Major Causes of Snoring

1. Blocking of the nasal air passages. Snoring occurs when the soft palate and the uvula vibrates. The vibrating sound is produced when the nasal air passages become obstructed. These can be caused by anatomic factors like large tonsils, bulky neck tissues or enlarged tongue. That is why, people suffering from colds or flu tend to snore louder since they have swollen tonsils that block the air passages.

2. Over relaxation and reduced tone of the muscles in the throat area. The more relax the muscles are, the greater is the likelihood of snoring happening. Moreover, the decrease of muscle tone in the tissues of the throat can also lead to snoring. That is why, it is no surprise that people tend to snore louder as they get older. This is because the upper airway becomes more floppy and less resilient as people ages.

6 Simple Steps to Prevent Snoring

1. Change your sleeping habits. If you are a snorer, it is advisable to sleep on your side. Lying on your back can aggravate the situation since that position tends to over relax the muscles in the throat area. In addition, try to sleep on a firm mattress in a well-ventilated room.

2. Avoid alcohols, drugs and smoking. These things and habits can produce substance that tends to relax the muscles of the body which can aggravate snoring. Smoking can produce mucus that can lead to the swelling of the muscles in the throat area.

3. Try to lose pounds if you are overweight. People who are obese or overweight have anatomic features like double chin and bulky neck tissues. These, as well as other things that involve the collection of fats can cause the blockage of the air passages.

4. Avoid fatigue and over eating before sleeping. Sheer physical exhaustion or over working can lead one to deep sleep where snoring normally happens. Over eating can cause extra load to your digestive system when you sleep.

5. There are anti-snoring devices being offered in the market like anti-snoring pillows and mouthpieces. Make sure you check their reviews first before purchasing one as they are not proven effective for every one.

6. Performing simple breathing exercises that can improve and tone the muscles in the throat area is another way to prevent snoring. There is an exercise program online that teaches you how to do it and it is definitely worth checking out.

Does My Snoring Solution Really Work?

My entire life has revolved around my snoring. While I was living at home during my younger years, my entire family despised me because I kept them awake for hours on end almost every night. I didn't understand why everyone was always so mad me. After all, I was sleeping when all of this was going on. As I grew older, the problem became worse. Every girlfriend I ever had never lasted after the first or maybe second time we went out together and I didn't understand why.

Then my family was so happy when I went away to college it almost gave me a complex. When I moved into the the college dorms with my three roommates no one noticed the snoring for the first few weeks because we were all so busy partying and getting to know everyone. Then came the morning when I awoke and everyone was standing over me with their hands on their hips and angry looks on their faces. They all said that if I didn't do something about my snoring that very day, I was out the door.

I had seen advertisements for a device called My Snoring Solution that could only be bought on the internet. I knew this wouldn't help me with my roommates tonight, but I decided to get on my computer and check it out. The information on the internet had many testimonials from snorers who had tried this product and were happy with it. The ads scared me a little because they stated that a person that snored as bad as I did could be in medical jeopardy. It stated there was a chance I wasn't getting enough air while sleeping and this could be dangerous. Nobody had ever mentioned that to me before. I made a note to myself to call a doctor soon.

I ordered one immediately upon that note and asked for express delivery, but I still wouldn't get it for a couple of days. When I informed my roommates they were just glad I had made a move in the right direction. When My Snoring Solution finally came, everyone gathered around as I opened it. I was expecting something large and ugly, but that wasn't the case. It was very light and fit well. The instructions stated that besides my roommates being able to get a good night's sleep, I would benefit because I would feel rested when I woke up because my brain would be getting enough oxygen now. The ad said that this would increase my concentration levels in my classes. This was great news.

After a couple of quiet nights in my dorm room, my roommates were my friends again. Plus, the advertisements had been right, I was feeling much better in the mornings when I woke up. This new device, My Snoring Solution, has made a great change in my life and I'm happy I was pressured into finally fixing my snoring problem.

There are claims out there of that claim of a "My Snoring Solution Scam". After using the product and having amazing results, I think these claims have no validity.

Useful Tips To Stop Your Snoring Situation Today - Which Snoring Aids Actually Work?

Snoring can cause several problems to the sufferer due to the lack of much needed sleep. But, you can control snoring with the use of stop snoring aids.

Many people do not perceive what causes the snoring problem. Essentially when you go to sleep your jaw falls open. So what, you might say. The problem is that a collapsing jaw causes the narrowing of the throat. The narrowing of the throat can then lead to quick air flows and vibrations which leads to the snoring sound.

In view of this most snoring aids try to keep your nasal passages open. It is important to not that these objects do not cure the snoring condition, they just avoid it from happening whilst placed over the nose or mouth. Removing the object from the mouth or nose will again cause snoring.

An effective way of stopping snoring is by using a CPAP machine, am expensive device that is worn over your face. This is similar to a gas mask and it is designed to avoid your throat from collapsing by applying continuous air pressure. Some people find CPAP masks not too comfortable to wear, so it is always recommended to try one (if possible) before you buy one. Unfortunately it might be a bit difficult to borrow or lease one.

Probably the most well known stop snoring aid is the nose strip. The premise is to open up your nasal passage more than normally, allowing you to close your mouth and not be required to breathe through it while sleeping.

Another well know anti snoring devices is the mouth guard. The mouth guard helps to keep your jaw in a specific position as you sleep and helps to avoid the snoring problem. Some mouth guards are available in different sizes and it is up to the snorer to find the size which is best for him/her. Mouth guards that are fabricated according to the user's mouth are usually more expensive, but these type of guards are usually more comfortable and more effective in the long run.

Another popular snoring aid is the jaw supporter, also known as a snoring chin strap. The snoring chin strap inhibits the sufferer from opening his/her mouth while sleeping. The closed mouth keeps the throat from falling open and the snoring diminishes or even stops completely.

The snoring pillow is another snoring aid that is available in many stores. These pillows are designed to encourage proper alignment which keeps the airway open. Sleeping on your side can be an easy way to reduce, if not eliminate, your snoring. The pillow placement prevents you from rolling onto your back, which could lead to snoring.

Sleep Apnea - Dangerous common Sleep Disorders

This interruption of the breathing cycle of the human body can return hundreds of times per night, with potentially fatal consequences. Apnea is indeed alarming, sleep, the most dangerous of all sleep disorders, one of the most common sleep disorders identified, leading to one million Americans each year eighteen.

This condition can be divided into two main categories. "The central sleep apnea", caused by a neurological disorder that disrupts the brains signal to normal breathing and "The obstructive sleep apnea, characterized by the excessive relaxation or the collapse of the respiratory muscles surrounding roads, which in turn causes windpipe obstruction. Both forms involve the frequent arrest of breathing and the temporary suspension of the supply of oxygen to the brains, by means of suffering from sleep apnea to a significantly higher risk of hypertension, myocardial infarction and stroke.

Diagnosing sleep apnea can be difficult. Snoring, one of the most common symptoms associated with sleep apnea (resulting in many people refer to this as "the snoring disease"), often leads to misdiagnosis of the disease. In fact, snoring can be associated with a variety of sleep disorders and other conditions unrelated to sleep apnea.

When the brains perceive a lack of oxygen after a blocked windpipe, reacts by activating the suffering enough to start breathing, often causing snoring or sometimes coughing. Therefore, sleep apnea suffers have a very poor quality of sleep and awake feeling more tired than before they went to bed.

Feelings of exhaustion, fatigue and an overwhelming desire to sleep during the day, better known as excessive daytime sleepiness, characterize sleep apnea, especially if it is viewed in conjunction with other symptoms such as headache head morning, the apparent lethargy, loss of interest in sex, forgetfulness and difficulty concentrating.

The ongoing exhaustion and physical fatigue caused by undiagnosed or untreated sleep apnea may also lead to the emergence of serious psychiatric symptoms including depression, irritability and mood swings and behavior.

If you think you suffer from sleep apnea, you should seek medical advice and referral, if necessary, pass the appropriate tests.

There are a variety of effective treatments available for sleep apnea is central or obstructive. Most patients benefit greatly from one or more of these treatments, which are mainly simple behavioral adjustments like changing or modifying your sleeping position. Obstructive Sleep Apnea light after persistent nasal congestion may simply require a course of decongestants, while more severe sleep apnea using an oxygen mask may be needed to stimulate breathing during sleep consistently. In severe cases of obstructive sleep apnea, certain surgical procedures can help restore effective and consistent breathing during sleep, but patients have to go this way especially with caution, as surgery can often lead to complications.

An important point to note is that, because the risk of potentially fatal respiratory arrest, suffering from sleep apnea should not be sleeping pills or artificial sleep enhancers because of the dangers of the airways.

Natural sleep remedies are an effective complement to medically prescribed treatments and can certainly help people with the privilege of spending one more night. Medicinal plants to improve the quality and duration of sleep may help patients to manage and even reduce the otherwise excessive daytime sleepiness caused by sleep apnea.

Also, the use of aromatherapy, color therapy and guided relaxation and meditation help to reduce anxiety and insomnia sleep apnea patients experience as they learn to manage their sleep.

Various Reasons for Snoring

Snoring may happen involuntarily but it can cause a lot of problem to the ones sharing room with the snorer. In some cases, it has even lead to divorce. There are many reasons for snoring.

Snoring is caused by having too much nasal or throat tissues which are likely to vibrate when the air passages get blocked. The narrowing of the air passages obstructs smooth breathing and causes snoring. The muscles of the throat and tongue get weakened and are likely to sway when relaxing. As they sway during sleep, they are likely to come in the way of air passages and create blockage. The blocking of the air passages leads to snoring. There are many reasons which cause weakening of the muscles.

Being overweight is a common reason. Excess fatty tissues in the neck can narrow the air passages and lead to snoring.

The air passages of males are generally narrower than that of females. Therefore, males are more likely to snore than females.

Drinking alcohol makes your body relax. It also relaxes the muscles of your tongue and throat. You have a greater chance of snoring as these muscles relax. Antihistamines and sleeping pills have the same effect on muscles as alcohol consumption does.

Sleeping on your back is also a major reason for snoring. It can be prevented by trying sleeping on your sides. Use of low pillows while sleeping also causes snoring. This can be prevented by using an extra pillow and keeping your head in an elevated position during sleep.

There may be many more reasons as to why people snore such as genetics, allergies and deformities of the nasal passage. It is therefore recommended that you consult your doctor who can tell you better what are your reasons for snoring and what you can do to overcome it.

Symptoms of Sleep Apnea and Snoring

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is the most common form of sleep apnea. It is in fact a disorder that can be very serious. In this condition, you have pauses in breathing which can last from few seconds to half or one minute. This happens as a result of the air passages getting completely blocked. The symptoms of sleep apnea and snoring can be noticed by the people sharing room with the snorer.

It is important to recognize the symptoms of sleep apnea at an earlier stage because it could result in life threatening conditions later.

Some of the symptoms of sleep apnea include feeling sleepy all day and even sleeping when you are not suppose to be such as while studying, eating and talking. You may also have headaches in the morning or in the night.

Other symptoms include heartburn, frequent urination in the night, chest pain and sweating during sleep and having problem concentrating.

There are also symptoms of sleep apnea that can be noticed by others. This may include choking at night, gasping spells, loud snoring and frequent gaps in breathing.

Sleep apnea deprives a person of oxygen by completely blocking the air passages. This creates an imbalance in carbon dioxide and oxygen levels. As a result of this imbalance, the brain is directed to start the breathing procedure again. Sleep apnea has major effect on the health of people.

However, minor cases of sleep apnea can be self treated. These treatments include, losing extra weight if you are obese, avoid alcohol and smoking, sleeping on your side and elevating your head with the help of extra pillow during sleep.

If you or your partner sees symptoms of sleep apnea and snoring, then you should consult your doctor who can provide you with a better treatment for snoring.

Causes of Sleep Apnea and Snoring Problems

Snoring is a loud noise that is created due to the vibration of the soft palate. It happens as the air passages gets obstructed during sleep and causes snoring. Snoring may be unpleasant for your partner but it is not a harmful condition. However, with the case of sleep apnea, there is complete blockage of the air passages which can cause major health conditions. There are many causes of sleep apnea and snoring problems.

There are two types of sleep apnea: Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and Central Sleep Apnea (CSA). Oxygen and sleep deprivation are the major effects of sleep apnea. OSA is the most common type of sleep apnea in which the throat collapses and the air passages are blocked preventing supply of oxygen to the lungs. In addition, snoring also leads to a drop in blood oxygen levels.

There are many major causes of OSA. Being overweight is the most common cause as the fatty tissues in the throat exert pressure on the air passage and collapse the air passage.

The other potential causes are allergies and asthma. Asthma increases the chances of air ways to collapse and allergies causes inflammation of the air ways. In both ways, the risk of sleep apnea is increased.

The chances of sleep apnea may be increased due to certain lifestyle choices such as smoking and alcohol consumption. Smoking causes irritation in throats and lungs and have a greater chance of closing the air passages. The throat muscles are relaxed by drinking alcohol and during sleep this muscles cause blockage of the air ways.

The other causes of sleep apnea and snoring may include neurological problems, enlarged tonsils, bone structure of the neck and skull and nasal congestion and blockage. It is however, a good idea to consult your doctor if you have snoring symptoms.

Snoring Solutions - Natural Solutions to Stop Snoring

We appreciate the slew of different suggestions for snoring solutions that can be found on the internet nowadays. However, word of caution: not all of these snoring solutions can be applicable for everyone. Snoring problems could be a symptom of different causes and, therefore, each unique case would need a specific snoring cure.

Below is a short list of probable snoring solutions, but then again, take note that you have to find the cause of your snoring problem first so you will know which specific snoring cure would best solve your particular problem:

Cause 1. Partial blockage of the air passageway in the nostril

Possible Snoring Solutions

Nasal strips. This is a good snoring cure. You tape one of these nasal strips to your nose to widen the opening while you sleep. It may seem funny to you but who's looking? If you have a roommate or a spouse, he or she will be more than happy to welcome those nasal strips than to be constantly disturbed at night and kept awake by your irritating snores.

Peppermint mouthwash. How is this included in snoring solutions, you may ask? If the partial blockage of your nostril is caused by colds or allergy, gargling with a peppermint mouthwash shrinks the swollen tissues in your nose and throat.

Keep your sleeping area fresh and clean at all times. Always have fresh pillowcases and sheets, and vacuum your bedroom floors or carpets and curtains more often. These are great snoring solutions for those whose snoring problem is caused by swollen airways by freeing your bedroom from pollen, dust, and other allergens.

Drink tea before bedtime. As one of the recommended snoring solutions for this particular cause, drink the nettle tea kind that you can buy from your local herbal shop. This concoction does not only give a soothing effect and relief from inflammations caused by allergies from pollens and dust, herbal teas are also believed to have a calming and relaxing effect if drank before sleep.

Cause 2. Partial blockage of air passage in the throat

Possible Snoring Solutions

Extra Pillows, or buy a bigger one. Lying flat on your back could give you a bad head-neck posture that can block the air passage in your throat. Lying on your back, with soft pillows could make your throat tissues collapse downwards, and this could result to partial blocking of the airways. A simple measure as elevating your upper torso when you sleep could greatly help.

Raise the upper part of your bed. You can do this if you are alone in your bed This does the same snoring cure as the one above this suggestion.

Sleep sideways. This relieves the tissue pressure and prevents it from collapsing.

Sew a tennis ball at the back of your pyjama top will force you to sleep on your side. Sleeping on your side is one of the easiest of the snoring solutions we have but if this is difficult to follow, a tennis ball on your back could make lying on it uncomfortable, right?

Just like in any other symptoms of other ailments, it would be very prudent for you to find out the cause of those underlying symptoms before deciding on a relief. A visit to your doctor would be the best first single step at finding the best snoring solutions.

How To Snore No More Without Dropping A Dime

Have you heard how people claim that they now snore no more? Well, it's entirely possible because I went through the embarassing years snoring like a giant bear. If I could do it, they why can't you? I owed it to my wife because of those many sleepless nights that I have caused her and now, she can finally sleep without worrying about a big bad bear making thunderous noises beside her.

Snore No More Tip #1 - Your Daily Diet
The first thing I always ask people when they ask me for help about snoring is "Can you create me a list of what you eat and drink on a daily basis?" Everyone knows that alcohol will cause people to snore more often than not but most people don't know that if they eat or drink too much of something that their bodies cannot tolerate, then they will have a dilemma of mucus buildup when sleeping which causes them to snore.

Snore No More Tip #2 - Are You Obese?
It has been proven that having excess baggage around your waste will lead to snoring. The lifestyles we live nowadays are undeniably different from before. Lose the fats particularly around your shoulder and neck and that should minimize your snoring.

Snore No More Tip #3 - How You Sleep
Resting flat on your back to sleep will cause you to snore more often. Sleep on your front or even sideways so you could at least minimize your snoring. Now I know this is easier said than done, but what you can do is to make it awkward for you to sleep on your back. Sew a ping pong ball on the back of your shirt, then when your body rolls and lies flat down, the ping pong ball will irritatingly dig into your back and make your body roll back to its side once more. A little bit extreme i know, but if you don't have the discipline to sleep on your side by yourself, over-the-top measures are required.

Snore No More Tip #4 - THE QUICK FIX
I've tried nasal strips and it helps. These nasal stips will help you breathe better because they keep your air passages from getting blocked. These will be useful right on the moment you use them. These are effective if you don't mind setting a monthly budget for them because they will cost a lot in the long run.

Snore No More Tip #5 - Going To The Source
Never disregard the easiest and most natural way to stop snoring as a good solution. I used an all natural exercise program and I just can't say enough. It's surely a blessing in disguise for me. Yes, a permanent cure to your snoring problems. This exercise is very similar to how musicians exercise their throat and related muscle areas around their air passage. Singers benefit from this too so they can reach those high notes or ven the lower notes.

Doing some simple exercises will open up these muscle areas around your breathing passage. This will ultimately lead to a lasting cure for snoring.
